Requirements for an Instrument Rating
- An Instrument Rating can be tested alongside the Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) test, or it can be completed separately after obtaining the CPL.
Theoretical Requirements
You must have passed all the Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) theoretical subjects (see CPL requirements), as well as the following additional subject:
- Instrument Rating Operations and Procedures (Pass percentage 75%)
Practical Requirements
A minimum of 40 hours of instrument flight time, consisting of:
- 20 hours in an approved flight simulator
- 20 hours in an actual aircraft
The test will be conducted by an accredited SACAA Designated Flight Examiner.
